"Chord" atau cod?

Petang semalam saya meninjau seorang pelajar tingkatan 2 yang sedang mengulangkaji matematik. Saya memintanya membaca bebeapa istilah matematik yang ada dalam buku ulangkaji yang digunakannya. Nampaknya pelajar ini dapat menyebut dengan betul dan jelas, tetapi apabila sampai ke istilah "chord", pelajar ini membaca dengan sebutan cod (ejaan BM). Saya meminta kepastian dan pelajar ini menjelaskan memang cikgu mengajar begitu. Saya minta pelajar ini berjumpa guru matematik dan minta kepastian sebutan yang betul. Saya percaya mungkin pelajar ini yang silap.

The word chord (pronounced "cord") refers to a straight line drawn between two points on a circle (or more generally, on any curve).
A chord is a lot like a secant, but where the secant is a line stretching to infinity in both directions, a chord is a line segment that only covers the part inside the circle. A chord that passes through the center of the circle is also a diameter of the circle.
In the Circle shown, PQ and AB are chords with their endpoints P, Q and A, B respectively lying on the circle.
